Biography Katherine E. Galluzzi, DO, CMD, FACOFP dist. Professor, Chair, and Director
Katherine E. Galluzzi, DO, CMD, FACOFP dist., has practiced geriatric medicine in Philadelphia since 1992. Dr. Galluzzi received her medical degree from the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in 1984 and completed a rotating internship and Family Medicine residency at Kennedy Memorial Hospital-University Medical Center, University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ) School of Medicine. She completed a clinical fellowship in Geriatrics at the University of Pennsylvania Center for the Study of Aging and a Faculty Development fellowship at Temple University School of Medicine. Prior to accepting her appointment at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, Dr. Galluzzi was a founding member of the UMDNJ Center for Aging where she served as CME Coordinator for the New Jersey Geriatric Education Center as well as Co-Director of the geriatric fellowship program. Dr. Galluzzi holds a Certificate of Added Qualification in Geriatrics, is certified as a Medical Director in Long Term Care through the American Medical Directors Certification Program, is a Diplomate of the American Board of Hospice and Palliative Medicine, and was recently recertified in Family Medicine. She is a distinguished Fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians and serves as Chair of the ACOFP Program Committee and member of the Industry Relations Committee. Dr. Galluzzi is Co-Chair of the American Osteopathic Association End-of-Life Care Advisory Committee, a Fellow of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia, and serves on the American Medical Directors Association Board of Directors and Program Planning Committee. She is also a member of the American Geriatrics Association, past President and Board of Directors member of the Delaware Valley Geriatrics Association, President-Elect and Board of Trustees member of the Pennsylvania Osteopathic Family Physicians Society, the Pennsylvania Medical Directors Association, the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine, and the Pennsylvania Osteopathic Medical Association. Dr. Galluzzi maintains active staff privileges at Main Line Health-Lankenau, Tenet-Roxborough Memorial Hospital, and Mercy Hospital in Philadelphia. She is a member of the medical staff at several nursing homes and serves as Medical Director of the Mary J. Drexel Home in Bala Cynwyd and Courtland at Home and Compassionate Care Hospice in Philadelphia. Dr. Galluzzi's awards and honors include the Frederick J. Solomon Award of Merit from the Pennsylvania State Society of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians (1996), the Barbara Bell Award from the Eastern Regional Geriatrics Society (2005), and two major fellowships: the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians Distinguished Fellow Award (2004) and from the College of Physicians of Philadelphia (1998). Dr. Galluzzi has authored articles focused on end-of-life care and the patient-centered approach to pain management in journals such as Journal of the American Osteopathic Association.
