Biography Bill McCarberg, MD Family Practitioner
Bill McCarberg, MD is Founder of the Chronic Pain Management Program at Southern California Permanente Medical Group in Escondido where he practices Family Medicine, and is Adjunct Assistant Clinical Professor at University of California, San Diego. Dr. McCarberg is board certified in Pain and Geriatric Medicine. Dr. McCarberg earned his undergraduate degree in Biomedical Science summa cum laude from University of California, Berkeley, and his medical degree from Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois. His postdoctoral training includes an internship and family medicine residency at Highland Hospital, Rochester, New York. Dr. McCarberg sits on the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Pain Medicine and is President of the Western Pain Society. He is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, International Association for the Study of Pain, San Diego County Medical Society, and the California Medical Association. Dr. McCarberg is part of the Clinical Practice Guidelines Panel for Postoperative Pain of the American Pain Society and is Expert Reviewer for the California Medical Board. He is Co-Editor of the National Initiative on Pain Control newsletter and section editor for Pain Medicine Primary Care Section. Dr. McCarberg has given over 500 lectures on various pain topics. His accolades include the 2006 American Society of Healthcare Publication Authors Gold Award for Best How-To Articles Series, and the 2008 National Pain Foundation Ambassador of the Year award.
