Biography Howard S. Smith, MD, FACP, FAAPM, FACNP Associate Professor
Howard S. Smith, MD, FACP, FAAPM, FACNP, is Associate Professor in the Departments of Anesthesiology, Medicine, and Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, and Academic Director of Pain Management at Albany Medical College, Albany, New York. Dr. Smith is board certified in Pain Medicine, Addiction Medicine, Palliative Medicine, Anesthesiology, Nuclear Medicine, and Internal Medicine. Dr. Smith attended State University of New York, Albany to earn Bachelor of Science degrees in Mathematics and Biology. He studied Biochemistry as a graduate student at New York University in New York City, where he received a teaching fellowship in Chemistry. Dr. Smith received his medical degree from Chicago Medical School in Illinois. His postdoctoral training includes residencies in the Departments of Anesthesiology at Albany Medical College and Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center, chief residencies in Nuclear Medicine at University of Cincinnati Medical Center and Internal Medicine at Albany Medical Center, and a fellowship in Pain Management, also at Albany Medical Center. Dr. Smith is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, American Academy of Pain Medicine, and the American College of Nuclear Physicians, and member of many other professional organizations, including the American Society of Anesthesiology, International Association for the Study of Pain, and the New York State Society of Anesthesiologists. He serves as editor-in-chief for Journal of Pain Research, Pain Physician, and Report on Interventional Pain Management, and on the editorial review boards of American Journal of Hospice and Palliative Care, Pain Research and Treatment, and The Open Toxicology Journal. Dr. Smith has given several academic presentations worldwide and has published more than 250 articles, books, chapters, and abstracts. Faculty Disclosure:
